A QUOTE
“In life, the challenge is not so much to figure out how best to play the game; the challenge is to figure out what game you're playing.”
— Kwame Anthony Appiah, British philosopher and cultural theorist
A QUESTION
What choices do you get to avoid this week because your values dictate how you'll behave?
A THOUGHT
In your job you make strategic decisions based on your company’s mission. You choose a north star and work out the best path to get there. But what about your personal values? Are you engineering your life on the basis of what you want it to be?
For example, do you most want to be someone who teaches others? Eats local? Accomplishes physical feats? It's tempting to follow the crowd and avoid conflict when you haven’t sorted out what you stand for.
Consider whether your actions are in service of your highest priorities.
When you declare your values, you make one decision that removes a thousand future decisions. It’s easier to navigate new situations when you’re clear on the options you will automatically eliminate. Make it so your food choices, your financial investments, and the friends you keep relate back to those values.
Stick to the things and people that bring you into alignment with who you want to be. Watch how much happier, how much healthier, and how much more abundant you feel in your life.
