A QUOTE

“People on both sides of any conflict believe they are right, whether it’s on a TV show or in the real world.” — Mandy Patinkin, American actor

A QUESTION

How do you show up to a conflict?

A THOUGHT

Drama often obscures the real issues. It gives us something to focus on instead of solving our problems.

Provoked by personal conflict, we take on a drama persona that reenforces unhelpful patterns. We play the role of victim, villain, or hero.

  • The victim says "yes" too much and believes they have no control over their outcomes. They regularly feel overwhelmed.

  • The villain gets angry at things they can't change. They're quick to judge yet easily offended.

  • The hero likes to appear self-sacrificing and uses problem solving to feel important. They often don't trust others to help themselves.

In a conflict that's slow moving towards resolution, resist the temptation to fall into these roles. When we stop acting in the drama, it loses its hold on us.
