A QUOTE

"Until we make the unconscious conscious, it will direct our lives, and we will call it fate."

― Carl Jung, Swiss psychoanalyst

A QUESTION

What brave decision have you made and what made it so?

A THOUGHT

One of the strongest forces in the world is the urge to keep doing things as you’ve always done them.

The habits that comprise our days are hard to break and the social mores that reward hustle and hubris make it difficult to take a step back. Instead of pausing to reflect on our own contentment, we:

  • believe things need to be difficult- that if we're not redlining, we're not trying hard enough.

  • compare our lives to people's with different circumstances and values.

  • spend lots of time and money accumulating status symbols and certificates proving that we’re good at important things.

But consider the possibility in the opposite: Identify skills that come easily to you and celebrate them. See if you can go a week (or a month!) without looking at someone else's life on social media. Seek out opportunities to share how wrong or confused you were.

It's uncomfortable to question why you're doing what you're doing. The more you resist, the greater the chance you should be.
