A QUESTION
What takes up lots of your time but matters very little?
A THOUGHT
My current mantra: Keep things simple and focus will fall into place.
This applies to creating value as much as it applies to food choices or today's outfit. Why? Because we’re drawn to concepts that we're already semi bought into. We process things faster when they're put plainly.
Take the most anticipated blockbuster of 2006: Snakes on a Plane.
For those of you that remember this Samuel L. Jackson cult classic, you probably also recall thinking the title sounded idiotic.
I object. This title is brilliant.
It tells the viewer so much about what they’re going to watch, and it adds suspense without spoiling the plot. As a movie-goer, you know you’re not going to get spiders on a train or wolves at the mall. That simple title also helped the producers stay clear about what creative decisions served their core theme: snakes. And having those motherf—— snakes on the motherf—— plane.
Simple is smart. Simple gets you a multimillion-dollar theatrical run.
