A QUOTE
“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
– Teddy Roosevelt, 26th president of the United States
A QUESTION
If you could be truly excellent at only one thing, what would it be?
A THOUGHT
Purpose is a skill that can be built and nurtured.
Without developing the muscle to focus on something meaningful or challenging, work leaves us unfulfilled, quarantine feels claustrophobic, and Sundays are scary. Lack of direction makes us listless, but too many options makes us anxious.
Luckily, there’s no need to wait until we're free from the mundane or inconvenient details of life to pursue a higher goal. Cultivating a genuine 'Why' makes it possible to enjoy the quotidian 'How's.
The way I see it, my 'Why' to write non fiction is one strategic decision that settles a thousand future decisions. By eliminating a universe of other things I could be doing with my time, I find purpose in small milestones (like the Sharies!) while I improve my delivery and make salary through other means.
Physical goals also serve a deeper objective than the miles covered or pounds lifted. I love the challenge of honing self-discipline and the intrinsic satisfaction of trying something I’m not sure I can do and then accomplishing it.
To find purpose, do hard things that matter.
